A-Prevent Training
T32 Doctoral Fellowship
Georgia State University has openings for the PhD T32 fellowship: Alcohol Prevention Research on Violence, Equity and Novel Techniques (A-PREVENT) Training Program. Dr. Amanda Gilmore (MPI) is the program director of training. Dr. Laura Salazar (MPI) is the program director of research.
Directly aligned with the NIH-wide research effort, ADVANCE: Advancing Prevention Research for Health Equity, and the NIAAA’s Strategic Plan objective to Advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Alcohol Research Enterprise, the Alcohol Prevention Research on Violence, Equity and Novel Techniques (A-PREVENT) Training Program will provide advanced research training in alcohol and violence prevention with a focus on:
1). Health equity
2). Designing and implementing multi-level interventions to address the intersection of alcohol and violence prevention as well as its associated co-morbidities
3). Innovative methodological and statistical approaches to assess efficacy across multiple levels of the social-ecological model. This advanced, integrated, and innovative training program will not only diversify the biomedical research workforce with our trainees from diverse backgrounds, but also prepare them to develop and evaluate multi-level preventive interventions that address significant health disparities.
The A-PREVENT Training Program will focus on training the next generation of alcohol and violence prevention researchers in addressing not only alcohol and violence, but also comorbidities such as substance use, tobacco use and mental health conditions— all of which intersect and disproportionately affect minoritized populations in the United States resulting in substantial rates of early mortality and morbidity.
